Our Why
Jansen Myers was a happy, healthy 2-year-old boy from Miamisburg, Ohio who loved playing with his older brother and watching Barney. On December 5, 2000, Jansen’s life took a tragic turn after being repeatedly abused at the hands of a caregiver. He was left in a vegetative state. Abuse was not initially suspected but was later confirmed after he sustained multiple fractures and brain injuries over a nine-month period. After medical professionals determined Jansen was unable to overcome his injuries, he was taken off life support and passed away on August 8, 2001. An autopsy revealed his death was a result of bilateral subdural hematomas, shaken baby syndrome, and blunt force trauma to the head. He was only 3 years old. Through the depths of our despair, we turned anger into advocacy and established the Jansen Myers Child Abuse Foundation in 2002, a non-profit aimed at preventing child abuse.
Our Vision
The Jansen Myers Child Abuse Foundation provides child abuse prevention education to the Miamisburg community and beyond through various outreach efforts, helping to ensure all children can grow in an environment without the fear of abuse.
Our Mission
To be a driving force focused on child abuse prevention through increased awareness and training, honoring the legacy of Jansen Myers.
