Jansen was a happy, healthy 2 year old boy from Miamisburg, OH. He loved playing with his older brother and watching Barney. On December 5th, 2000, his life took a tragic turn. Jansen had been abused by a caregiver. He was left in a vegetative state and remained that way for the next nine months. Abuse was not suspected initially but was later confirmed after he sustained multiple fractures and brain injuries over the nine month period. Jansen was taken off life support on August 8th, 2001. An autopsy revealed his death was a result of bilateral subdural hematomas, or Shaken Baby Syndrome. He was only three years old.
In 2002, The Jansen Myers Child Abuse Foundation was formed in his memory.
Over 15 years later, the foundation continues to support child abuse education and Jansen's community.
